Yarrow Road
I have been approached by residents of the Yarrow Road are of the ward who were concerned at the length of the grass next to their houses. The grass had been left uncut to provide a safe habitat for wild animals, and to encourage the growth of wild flowers, but the residents were concerned at the risk to their property if the grass were to catch fire. They also noted that the long grass was being used as cover for a number of antisocial activities. After obtaining support from the Police and Fire Brigade I discussed the problem with the NELC neighbourhood services team who agreed to cut a much wider firebreak around the houses, and they will continue to do this in the future to prevent a recurrance of the problem in the future.
