The minutes of the meeting of Yarborough Forward which took place earlier this month are now available:-
Possibly the most important part of the meeting was making the arrangements for an event to promote the work of Yarborough Forward and to meet potential new members. This will take place at 3.00pm on 28th January at the Resource Centre in Central Parade. The event will include light refreshments and entertainment, as well as giving the opportunity to meet some of the members of the Forward group and learn more about it’s work. Road Safety Improvements Planned for the Laceby Bypass
The residents of the Ridgeway area recently received good news from NELC. Following the presentation of the petition to the council it has been announced that there is to be a number of improvements made to the road to make it safer and easier to cross. NELC intend to have a section of the road approaching Bradley Crossroads narrowed from four lanes to two. The speed limit on this stretch of road will be reduced to 30 mph, and there will be four speed cameras installed as a measure to enforce the new speed limit – the first cameras to be deployed in the area.

Drains in the Yarborough Road Area
This morning I met some of the NELC officers who are responsible for neighbourhood services in the Yarborough Road area. We spent a couple of hours walking along Yarborough Road and Boulevard Avenue looking at the state of the pathside drains and discussing the problems that they are causing. It seems that there has been considerable damage to the drains that may have been caused by recent engineering work in the area. This has been the cause of the excessive surface water and flooding in the area following periods of heavy rain. Over the coming weeks work will take place to assess the damage and to clean and repair the drains.

Garage Replacement Scheme for Shoreline Tenants
Shoreline HP have announced their plans to replace 1400 garages across N E Lincs as a safety precaution. In a recent press release a spokesman for Shoreline HP said
“Shoreline is demolishing all of its 1400 garages across its neighbourhoods in North East Lincolnshire as a health and safety precaution. The housing association proposes a programme of reprovision where residents express a preference for garages to be reprovided. Shoreline will consult with every single garage tenant and those residents who are directly next to garages to gauge views on future provision. The scheme will take place in phases across the borough:
Phase one – Bradley Park,
Phase two – Littlecoates, Laceby, Nunsthorpe, Immingham
Phase three – West Marsh
Phase four – East Marsh Phase five – Humber, Cleethorpes East
Phase six – East Marsh multi-storeys, Immingham (Washdyke)
Phase seven – Willows
Phase eight – Cleethorpes South
Other areas such as the Yarborough will be dealt with through separate redevelopment programmes.
Consultation will begin in phase one next week and demolition is due to begin in phase one early next year. Residents affected by demolition will know precisely what the plan for demolition and reprovision is in their neighbourhood before work begins. The complete demolition and reprovision of garages across North East Lincolnshire will be complete by April 2009.If the scheme gets the go ahead, it is intended that blocks of garages will be knocked down and reprovided within a week so there is a minimum gap in provision of service. The replacement scheme is an opportunity for significant investment in the quality of the stock, to increase safety and provide better security.Resident feedback will also be used to create a new garage tenancy agreement. If you have any questions or concerns or for full details of consultation and demolition dates please visit www.shorelinehp.com, email info@shorelinehp.com or telephone 0845 849 2000 option 5.

Support for the Enough Campaign.
As stated earlier this week, Liberal Democrat Councillors were out in force to support the Enough! campaign as they travelled to London to meet government ministers at the House of Commons. Steve and Debbie Hill organised a bus to take a party of 35 concerned residents from North East Lincolnshire to meet Policing Minister Tony McNulty and Under-secretary of State for crime reduction Vernon Coaker, and our two local MP’s to voice their concern about the level of antisocial behaviour in the area, and to deliver letters from the Telegraph to Gordon Brown and David Cameron. Read what the local paper wrote about the visit:
“ TOP Government ministers have pledged to come to Grimsby to view the problems on our streets for themselves.
In a high-profile meeting at the House of Commons, Policing Minister Tony McNulty and Under-secretary of State for crime reduction Vernon Coaker faced local residents, the Grimsby Telegraph and MPs Austin Mitchell and Shona McIsaac to hear our concerns.
As reported, we travelled to the capital yesterday with a coach-load of people who are sick and tired of anti-social behaviour in North East Lincolnshire.
We hand-delivered letters from Telegraph editor Michelle Lalor, copies of the newspaper and scores of your comments to Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Tory leader David Cameron.
In response to your concerns, Mr McNulty and Mr Coaker have said they will personally visit Grimsby soon to assess the situation for themselves.
Mr McNulty praised the Telegraph’s Enough! campaign and urged all local authorities to work together more closely to improve our communities.
“The campaign is called Enough and that really sums it up,” he said.
“If that is what you are saying then more power to you, but get everybody involved – councils, schools and whoever is involved with decision-making.
“As you say, enough is enough. Next time I am up your way, I’m going to come to the Nunsthorpe estate and other places.” Mr Coker said: “I am impressed supporters have come to London because you want to draw a line in the sand.
“The solution starts when people come together – all the decent people – and say ‘actually, we’ve had enough’.
“In a few months time we can come to Grimsby.”
A party of 35 took part in the meeting, including a number of North East Lincolnshire councillors. “
Cllrs Les Bonner (Yarborough Ward), Steve Beasant (East Marsh), Dave Boylen (Freshney) and Doug Pickett (South) all travelled with the party and listened to their experiences of antisocial behaviour, and accompanied the party to the meeting. They also took the opportunity to meet Jeremy Browne, the Liberal Democrat spokesman for Home Affairs, and leader of the party Vince Cable.
