Commenting on today’s admission by the Home Office that a disk containing DNA data from suspected criminals passed to Britain by the Dutch authorities would have provided 22 matches if it had been checked, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Huhne said: “This is another example of Whitehall’s most dysfunctional department failing to let its left hand know what its right hand is up to.”
“Ministers have to get a grip on joined-up government if we are to avoid more grave and slipshod mistakes of this kind.
“If the Home Office cannot use the DNA of criminals properly, what on earth are they doing relentlessly collecting the DNA of innocent men, women and children?”
