A Bold Approach to Binge Drinking is Needed

Commenting on the Government’s plans to tackle binge drinking announced by today, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Huhne said: “The key issue is prosecuting off-licences who sell to minors.”

Chris Huhne went on to say:

“There are already strong laws in place to deal with this issue, but it is not being applied. Only tough enforcement of existing laws on underage supply will target the problem.

Commenting further, Liberal Democrat Shadow Culture, Media and Sport Secretary, Don Foster said:

“A minimum pricing policy is urgently needed to prevent stores from selling alcohol at below-cost prices.

“Given the failure of the Licensing Act to change drinking habits, a bold approach is now needed to tackle the crime and health problems caused by binge drinking.”
