Credit card statements could be delivered late due to postal strikes
Take care when your next credit card payment is due!
Twenty million letters are reportedly trapped in a backlog of post, some of which will be store and credit card statements.
The Communications Workers Union is in dispute with the management of Royal Mail over a modernisation programme that would result in changes to work patterns and the loss of thousands of jobs.
Banks have said that late payment charges on credit card accounts are generated automatically, and cannot be changed because of the strikes.
Liberal Democrat treasury spokesman Vince Cable commented:
“Banks must be more flexible over payment delays caused by postal strikes.
“They should pay back these punitive charges and end this practice immediately.”
