G20 leaders must match enthusiasm for tackling banking crisis with commitment to addressing climate crisis
“Nothing less than a bold, brave and tough deal needs to be agreed as quickly as possible,” said Simon Hughes, the Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change.
Commenting on negotiations taking place at the G20 Summit in Scotland, Simon Hughes said:
“Although it seems unlikely a full deal will be reached in Copenhagen in December, political leaders at the G20 Summit in Scotland must not lose sight of the urgency with which a financial framework needs to be agreed in order to tackle climate change.
“At worst, leaders in Copenhagen next month must accept that the only satisfactory outcome for the planet is an ambitious and binding agreement, finalised early in 2010 with financial commitments from all developed countries and a means of collecting money which is enforceable, fair and effective.”
“Leaders at the G20 Summit must match their enthusiasm for tackling the banking crisis with clear financial commitments to deal with the climate crisis. Nothing less than a bold, brave and tough deal needs to be agreed as quickly as possible.”
