The Government is trying to hide the true risks of nuclear power

“The cost of nuclear power past, present and future in no way justifies the small amount of extra energy security it would bring,” said Simon Hughes, the Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change.

Commenting on reports that the Government will next week announce an increase in the number of nuclear power sites, Simon Hughes said:

“If Labour are going to announce full steam ahead for nuclear power on the basis that it will be the best option for energy security and slowing down climate change in this country, then they are trying to hide other big dangers from the public.

“In an increasingly dangerous world the transport, use and storage of nuclear fuel bring huge risks. The cost of nuclear power past, present and future in no way justifies the small amount of extra energy security it would bring.”
