Brown is wrong to push ahead with Cold War Trident
“Gordon Brown is wrong to push ahead with this expensive programme,” said Alistair Carmichael, theLiberal Democrat Shadow Scotland Secretary.
Commenting on the SNP’s response to the ‘Scotland Without Nuclear Weapons’ Report, Alistair Carmichael said:
“Liberal Democrats oppose the like-for-like replacement of Trident for all of the UK. It is an outdated, Cold War system, and an unforgivable waste of money when our front-line troops still lack the equipment they need.
“Gordon Brown is wrong to push ahead with this expensive programme when our brave men and women in Afghanistan are facing shortages of helicopters and armoured vehicles.
“Sadly the nationalists seem to think that nuclear disarmament stops with Scotland. Their policy would have no impact on progress towards global nuclear disarmament.”
