Crime bulletin from Humberside Police following Grimsby garage /shed burglaries
Neighbourhood Police officers from your local area are urging you to be vigilant following a number of shed and garage burglaries in the area in recently.
Garages and sheds tend to be an ideal target for thieves as they are often full of expensive items such as bicycles, garden equipment and even sporting items such as golf clubs and fishing equipment.
With this in mind Police have issued the following advice to help keep burglars out:
1) Never leave a shed or garage unlocked, secure with a closed shackled padlock and ensure the doors are solid enough not to be kicked in and look to keep expensive items such as power tools out of sight to stop unwanted visitors spotting them easily.
2) Consider painting or engraving your post code onto items like, bicycles, lawnmowers, strimmers and power tools to make them less attractive to a thief as this can help police trace the owner if the items are recovered at a later date.
3) Don’t leave garden tools and ladders lying around in the garden, as these can be easily stolen and used to break into properties.
4) Consider extra security on both garage and shed doors in order to make life harder for anyone trying to force entry.
Anybody wanting to report suspicious activity or request further crime prevention information can contact their local Police Community Support Officer on 101 or stop us in the street when we are out on patrol to arrange a home security check.
