From Wednesday 3rd September anyone found cycling in pedestrianised.zones in Grimsby will face a £30 on - the - spot fine which will be issued fines by police officers and PCSO’s.
The pedestrian zone covers all of the area of the Victoria Street pedestrianised area, the Old Market Place, Bull Ring Lane, East Saint Mary’s Gate, and Brewery Street.
Signs prohibiting all motor vehicles are already in place to show where the zones start and finish, and cyclists will be required to dismount their cycles and walk. The only exception to the rule is for holders of motor vehicle permits between the hours of 4.00pm and 10.30am.
Councillor Andrew De Freitas, the Liberal Democrat Leader of N E Lincolnshire Council, said “It is high time that we started enforcing the pedestrian zone in Victoria Street and the surrounding area.
“Cyclists throw caution to the wind by weaving in and out of shoppers and are clearly flouting a law that is in place to protect the public. Hopefully this measure will put a stop to such irresponsible behaviour”
Liberal Democrat Councillor Steve Beasant, the portfolio holder for communities and neighbourhoods, said “This is not a money - making exercise - cyclists put themselves and others in danger, particularly those who are registered bind, or disabled, by ignoring the rules of the pedestrianised zone. It’s quite simple - either push your bicycle or push off!”
Cameron Takes His Real Holiday!
August 24th, 2008 by Les Bonner
Just weeks after praising the virtues of holidaying in Britain during the credit crunch, David Cameron has taken a luxury holiday aboard a £21,000-a-week yacht in Turkey!
As reported in the press today the Tory leader joined 74 friends and family for a week-long tour of the Turkish Riviera which ended yesterday. The party enjoyed the sun and drank wine on seven traditional ‘gulet’ boats with 20ft high white sails. Each boat had its own personal chef, captain and two crew.
Cameron has been criticised over the holiday, which was his second in the past month, - following his more modest bucket-and-spade break on a Cornwall beach where he invited the media to take photos of him and his wife Samantha, which was said to be a cynical attempt by Cameron to show himself as a humble stay-at-home politician who had tightened his belt and gone on holiday in Britain in the wake of the credit crunch. By contrast there were no photographs of Mr Cameron and his friends enjoying themselves in Turkey
Last night former Europe Minister Denis MacShane said Mr Cameron had conned the electorate.
He said that the vast majority of hard-working British people are lucky if they can afford one holiday a year, here is ‘Two-vacation’ Cameron showing that if you are super-rich, you can forget the day job. Cameron likes to pretend he goes on bucket-and-spade holidays - but in reality he goes sailing in the lap of luxury with his rich friends.
